While Malia White hasn’t exactly kept her life with her boyfriend, Robert, a total secret, she has maintained a strong sense of privacy when it comes to their relationship. And while the Below Deck Mediterranean alum has shared small peeks at their romance and recently confirmed they welcomed their first baby together, Malia intends to keep as much of their life out of the public eye as possible.
“He’s pretty private. And we kind of like it that way. ‘Cause as you know, I’ve had relationships in the public before,” she shared with The Daily Dish in an exclusive interview earlier this month. “And I don’t love that.”
Still, when The Daily Dish recently chatted with Malia, she shared a few new details about Robert.

He works in the yachting industry and has a connection to another familiar face from the Below Deck world. As it turns out, the fact that both Malia and Robert has ties to the boating industry have really shaped them as a couple and as new parents (more on that below).

As it turns out, Malia’s good friend, Katie Flood from Below Deck Med, introduced Malia to Robert and the rest is, as they say, history. “We actually met in a shipyard. And we were set up for a first date by Katie Flood. They knew each other from working together before on a boat,” Malia explained. “We were set up on a date. And she was like, ‘you know, I think you guys might hit it off.’ And she was right. So, yeah, we really have Katie Flood to thank for this.”

After their introduction by Katie, Malia and Robert decided to take a gamble to see how compatible they really were… and that meant they went on an international trip together early on in their relationship. “I think we just hit it off. And then, you know, we’re both yachties. And at the time, we worked on separate boats in different places in the world. But we kind of just took a chance. And we were like, should we just meet up in the [United] States for a little trip and see how we do like being around each other for an extended period of time. And we did,” she recalled.
She added, “We met in Nashville, ’cause neither of us had been to Nashville at that point. And we just had a 10-day trip. And we were like, ‘yeah, I think this is it.'”

Malia and Robert just welcomed a baby, so Malia noted that they aren’t in a rush to get married, but she joked, “Don’t worry. My mom asks that question all the time. You’re not alone.”
She then revealed, “I mean, it is something we’ve touched. We’re each other’s person, for sure. There’s no doubt there. But it’s, like, we’re not fussed about getting married, you know?”
Malia White shares what’s next for her and Robert as new parents to their baby girl
For now, they are settling into life as new parents. And, she’s excited for what that means for them and their daughter. “You know, obviously this baby’s being raised by two yachties who love to travel. It’s probably not gonna be the most conventional, traditional way of raising your kids,” she said. “So that’ll be exciting and fun and adventurous.”
