More than two years after Captain Sandy Yawn and her wife, Leah Shafer, tied the knot on May 11, 2024, the couple’s marriage is still going strong.
Sandy took to Instagram this year to celebrate their second anniversary, sharing a look at their first dance and scenes from their Fort Lauderdale boat wedding. “I love being in your arms,” she wrote in the caption of the post. “With you by my side, I feel safe, deeply loved, and like I can conquer anything life brings. Happy two years my love! But we have been together seven years.”
After posting a video of them dancing at their wedding to her feed, Leah also posted their wedding video to her Instagram account on May 30. She took to the caption of the post, where she opened up about the reality of their relationship as they mark their anniversary. “They see the smiles, the dress, the celebration. What they don’t see are the prayers, the tears, the risks, the healing, and the courage it took to find a love that feels like home,” she noted. “Marrying my wife wasn’t just the best day of my life — it was proof that it’s never too late for a new beginning.”

Captain Sandy Yawn’s wife Leah Shafer shares the secrets to their marriage
The previous month, Leah took to Instagram multiple times, where she gave an honest look into their love, sharing the secrets to making her relationship with Sandy work. Leah first took to Instagram on April 6, where she admitted that she has her ways of letting her yacht captain wife shine. “I move with love, but I stand in strength — always for her,” she wrote. “She shines in front — I stand strong behind. I see clearly what she needs and will make it happen. My love, my life, my wife.”
She then took to Instagram on April 27, where she revealed that in the middle of their busy schedules, they put “God first” in their relationship. “Then us,” she noted. “We remind each other daily — because life gets busy, but our foundation doesn’t change. Faith leads. Love follows. Everything else falls into place.”
Captain Sandy Yawn opens up about her life at home in Florida with Leah Shafer
Captain Sandy spoke with The Daily Dish in September 2025, where she revealed that she and Leah like to keep things lowkey when they’re at home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This involves playing with their adorable dog, Little Bear, hanging out at their house, and jumping in the swimming pool.
“And go to the beach. Just simple things,” she stated. “Leah and I swim every morning and every night. I like having a swimming pool, it’s so nice. And in the winter, it’s one big jacuzzi. I don’t care how big my heating bill is, that pool’s gonna be warm.”
